NFL : 2* INDIANAPOLIS

Rod Smith refers to last season’s wildcard loss here as “the scene of the crime”. Mike Shanahan has also made it a point to talk about how important it was for his team to get back here for a rematch. Just like last season these teams squared off in the regular season finale with nothing on the line for the Colts and everything in the balance for Denver.

The only difference from last season to this season was that the game was played in Denver. There were token appearances by the Colts starters but that was it. There will be a little motivation factor besides advancement on the home field for the Colts as TE Dallas Clark was knocked out by S John Lynch on a hit that lightened his wallet by $75,000.

The Colts were the most potent offense in the land and while their defense left much to be desired (#24 vs. the rush, #28 against the pass) they also featured the top sack man in the NFL as Dwight Freeney recorded 16 this season.

One thing that Jake Plummer can always be counted on doing is making boneheaded plays. In fact, the former Sun Devil did indeed connect for 27 TD this season but also saw 20 of his passes fall into the enemies hands.
